Is political correctness a useful concept, or does it stifle honest discussion?
I believe political correctness is a useful concept. It allows people to focus on the facts instead of possible prejudices. To point out a person’s age, race, and status in society may give people a bias opinion on the matter. For example if someone got shot, it should not matter if the person is of African, Mexican, Caucasian or Asian decent. The things that should matter is the motive and intent or whether it was in self-defense. I do not believe it stifles honest discussion, the information that describe a person based on looks and faith should be noted but not be the sole focus. Some of the information can give insight on potential motives but should not be what determines a person’s innocence in the court of law.
***Useful: adj. Able to be used for a practical purpose or in several ways.
